Important Online Dating Etiquette Mistakes

I have listened to many horror stories from people who are actively within online dating circles. Most of these horror stories are of people who are clueless of how to act in an online dating situation. Just because you are dating online, this does not mean that you are exempt from rules that apply, even in "real world" dating situations. Many people do not realize this and end up making foolish mistakes, branding them as "unpopular", or sometimes even just plain "weird".

No one should want to fall into any of these categories. You are on these sites to find a date, with the potential of finding a life partner. The last thing you want is to be banned from a dating site in which you paid for a subscription. You certainly didn't join in hopes that you could feel what it's like to be rejected from the seat of your computer chair.

When it comes to women, they love knowing that you took the time to learn more about them. One of the biggest mistakes you can make is to ask her questions about herself that have already been answered on her profile. What do you think this tells her? It shows her that you based your decision solely on looks and couldn't be bothered with actually reading her profile.

You can learn so much about a woman from her profile. Learning about her hobbies or interests can help you determine if you will even be compatible. You can really impress her by quoting from her favorite book, or even commenting on her skills in a sport or hobby. This will take you a step further into her world. A woman loves a man who pays attention!

Women also make their fair share of online etiquette mistakes. Asking a man about his annual salary, is certain to send him running to the next profile. You should not ask this question unless you happen to be his accountant or financial advisor. What does this tell him about you? Men will think you are only interested in the size of his wallet and whether or not he can afford a house and a few kids.

There are many mistakes that men and women make in "real world" dating situations, that even dating sites can't prevent. You cannot attract a mate online by overloading them with messages and being overly pushy. You definitely don't want to come across as borderline psychotic. Give them a chance to respond, and if they don't, learn to accept the fact that they are either busy or not interested.

Many online dating sites have somewhat free memberships. This usually only allows access to browse profiles, and maybe send a "wink". You cannot expect to meet the love of your life sending 20 "winks" to her. This is telling her that she isn't worth the membership fee to find out more about her. Don't be cheap, sign up and enjoy the benefits of online dating.

If you are looking for an easy, casual environment where you can meet people, try online dating. Dating sites are a great way to get acquainted with someone and break the ice before you actually meet face to face. Just be sure to show respect and act as if you were in a "real life" dating situation and you may find a life-long relationship.
