When you use online dating sites the first thing people are going to look at are your photos. They could care less if you like to volunteer as a Big Brother or if you helped feed the hungry in 3rd world countries. They care whether or not you are attractive and your photo helps "sell" you to potential daters. In order to increase your chances of being contacted by attractive members, you will need to make sure your photos are their absolute best.
Just how do you make your photos look their absolute best? I have some tips to help you take better photos that will definitely turn some heads.
Let's begin with the basics. First you will want to insure that your photos are well lit. Have some pictures taken outside in natural light. Natural light eliminates having to use a flash that can often wash out your skin and flash also has the habit of making certain features on the face stand out more such as a nose can appear larger or bags under the eyes will look 10x worse than they actually are.
Too many people hold a camera with one hand and take a self-portrait. Did you know that most cameras have a self-timer feature? When you use the self timer, you can set the camera timer and move in front of the camera with a more natural pose. If you do not want to bother with using a self-timer then enlist a friend or family member to take a photo of you.
I hate to sound so vain but ladies, you should take photos when you have your hair and make-up done. You want to make sure you put your best foot forward. Don't go overboard by having your hair styled in a matter you normally wouldn't wear for first dates and same with your makeup. In fact, men actually prefer women to wear makeup that looks natural so sporting a harsh smoky-eye look with a bright lipstick color is not the way to go for a profile photo. Think of your makeup as just a method to enhance your look, not distract.
Women should also take caution to not show too much skin. A small peak of cleavage is ok but you certainly do not want to your breasts to be the primary focus of your photo, otherwise you will attract the wrong sort of attention.
There are 3 basic photos you will need to have in your profile. First you will want to have a facesmile or a headshot. Basically it is a close up of your face so that your facial features can easily be identified along with hair. I personally think it is a good idea to show a nice smile in this close up shot. For some people like me; a nice smile is a must-have. If you are embarrassed of your smile because of discolored teeth or you are missing teeth or part of teeth then you should really speak with your dentist on steps to improve your smile. It is amazing how tooth whiting strips or a tooth whitening session in your dentist's office can make the difference; even if you have misaligned teeth.
Another photo that you must include is a full body shot. No one likes surprises and believe me, many people try to hide their body by not posting honest photos of their figure and then are shocked when they meet face to face and their date is totally uninterested in them. By posting a full body shot, you are laying all your cards out on the table and you will increase your chances of finding dates with people that like what they say in the photos as much as in person.
And finally, the last photo you should post is a candid shot of you doing an activity you enjoy. Maybe it's a picture of you hiking with friends or at an amusement park for a family vacation. Posting photos of your interests helps reveal some more of your personality to online daters.
